Chapter 1007: He Had to Accompany Her
Tonight’s intimacy, from his perspective, was tinged with a bittersweet melancholy, a quiet desperation to hold on.
But Gu Zi saw the night differently. She’d been deeply engrossed in her studies while Su Shen had been buried in work, leaving little room for their moments together.
To her, this evening felt like the perfect opportunity to bridge that gap. With just a week until the college entrance exams, she figured this was as good a time as any. She had always welcomed such intimacy, and Su Shen, attentive as he was, never failed to make it an experience worth savoring.
As their passion unfolded, Gu Zi quickly forgot her earlier musings about her little savings stash. She gave herself fully to the moment, losing herself in the warmth and familiarity of Su Shen’s embrace. The man, much older than her, seemed to have mastered his craft over time. When it was over, she felt completely content, her body and spirit utterly relaxed.
Su Shen, as always, was meticulous in the aftermath. He cleaned her up with care, asking softly if she felt alright, before carrying her to the bathroom.
Later, as he emerged and glanced at the wall calendar, his heart sank.
A week. Just one week until her college entrance exams. He hadn’t realized it would come so quickly. Even after their physically draining night, sleep evaded him.
He bent down and opened the left cabinet of her vanity. He recalled that when Gu Zi wasn’t using the study, she had a habit of stashing her books and supplies there. Digging through the cabinet, he gathered her scattered study materials into a clear folder. But as he reached for the books beneath, he paused. There, hidden among them, was a pristine passbook.
Just then, Gu Zi stepped out of the bathroom, her damp hair clinging to her shoulders as she lazily toweled it dry. She was wearing a silk camisole, and the warm light from the overhead lamp wrapped her in a soft, golden glow, making her look almost ethereal—gentle and breathtakingly beautiful.
Her eyes fell on Su Shen, who was sifting through her cabinet. A wave of nervousness swept over her. That cabinet contained her secret stash of savings—had he seen it?
Tentatively, she asked, “Su Shen, what are you looking for?”
Su Shen seemed entirely unbothered by the discovery of the passbook. Instead, he placed the books back where they belonged, handed her the neatly organized folder, and straightened up. “Your exam’s coming up soon. I noticed your supplies here, so I thought I’d organize them and check if you’re missing anything. Let me know, and I’ll get it for you.”
Relieved by his reaction, Gu Zi’s tension melted away. She set her towel down and stepped closer. Seeing that her stash had gone unnoticed, she secretly celebrated.
Taking the folder from him with a bright smile, she said, “Everything I need is ready. No need to worry.”@@novelbin@@
Su Shen picked up the towel she had abandoned and began drying her hair with gentle strokes, not mentioning the passbook at all. “During the exam days, I’ll drive you to and from the venue. You won’t need to stay in the school dorms. I’ve also spoken to Jin Long—he’ll have meals delivered to your school. The chef has already planned a nutritious menu for you.”
Gu Zi nodded, her fresh, makeup-free face radiating softness. Her skin was flawless, smooth as a freshly peeled egg.
Su Shen’s gaze lingered on her, though it never made her uncomfortable. She replied, “Actually, it’s pretty convenient to grab a taxi these days. If you’re busy with work, don’t trouble yourself too much.”
Su Shen studied her for a few seconds, his expression serious.
Work? How could work possibly be more important than her college entrance exams?
“No way,” he said firmly. “I don’t know anyone who’s taken the college entrance exams, and I never had the chance myself. Let’s just say I want to experience it. I’ve already cleared my schedule for those days. I’ll take you there and pick you up after. Wait here for a moment.”
He handed her the towel, as if remembering something suddenly, and walked to the door. Retrieving his coat from the rack, he reached into the pocket and pulled out a small, intricately designed box.
Returning to her, he placed it in her hands with a warm smile. “Open it. Let’s see if you like it.”
Gu Zi blinked in surprise. Another gift? She opened the box, and a subtle, elegant floral fragrance wafted out. Her eyes lit up with genuine delight. “It’s white magnolia perfume! Where did you find this?”
She vividly remembered how rare perfumes were in this era. Even in Jifu New Village, an affluent area, there was only one perfume boutique, and its selection had been underwhelming when she’d visited it.
Su Shen seemed pleased with her reaction. “Jin Long was on a business trip recently, and I knew the city he was visiting had a lot of imported goods. I asked him to pick up something special. You’ve always liked scented things, so I figured this would be a good choice.”
Gu Zi nodded enthusiastically, bringing the bottle closer to inhale the fragrance with a blissful smile. “It’s perfect. White magnolia is my favorite scent. Thank you so much!”
